Departure

Departure
A story set in a world where God has departed and only religion remains. A lonely robot is left behind in a closed, deserted old building. She longs to leave and explore the world outside, but her abilities are limited due to her immaturity, narrow field of vision, and difficulty in moving her body. After a long journey to the center of the building, she attempts to install a program that will help her grow and improve her abilities. With a successful upgrade, the robot's field of vision expands, and she experiences the beauty of the outside world. However, her program fails halfway through her journey due to a power loss, leaving her stranded and alone, enveloped by the beautiful world and blessed only by the light of the building.

Director Statement As of September 2, 2023, my film 'Departure' has been selected for many prestigious film festivals, and I have noticed a recurring trend. It appears that the film deeply resonates with festival juries and audiences, particularly women. This trend has reinforced my confidence that my message will be embraced. While the themes explored in this film may be somewhat elusive, I am gratified to see that it is evoking feelings of love and courage in all who watch it. The main motivation behind creating "Departure" was to share my unique perspective as a member of a social minority in certain aspects of society. My aim was to present a world that could challenge the broader public's complete comprehension. This story is inspired by 1 Corinthians 13:11 and offers a perspective on the issues of inequality, isolation from society, desire, and envy. Furthermore, this film provides insight into the intricate relationship between technology and art. The film takes the audience on a visual journey through the evolution of art throughout history, including architecture, painting, and film. The impressionistic representations in the latter half of the film come to life through a blend of hand-drawn illustrations, computer-generated imagery, and AI-assisted visuals. This technique intuitively suggests that art evolves in tandem with technology, with AI serving as an extension of that progression. Another goal of this work is to empower and inspire the audience as they contend with the rapid evolution of society.
