Director Biography - David Rodríguez Estrada
David Rodriguez Estrada (He/Him) is a Mexican-American writer/director based in Los Angeles. He has a degree in film from the Art Institute of California. He’s directed multiple award winning short films including his thesis film “¿Existes?” which premiered at the Palm Springs Shorts Fest and “Suripanta”, nominated for an Imagen Award. He’s a proud representative of a new generation of Queer Latine storytellers. “El Tesoro”, starring Oscar nominee Adriana Barraza and produced by Patricia Riggen, is David’s latest film. Director Statement El Tesoro was shot in February 2022 entirely in the state of Jalisco, near Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, an entity where the biggest clandestine grave in Mexico has been found with 104 bodies. Shooting El Tesoro in this region of Mexico and receiving the financing and support from CM Films, a Jalisco native company, is living testimony about how eager we are to tell our own stories and heal while we are at it. It’s evidence that we don’t need other people to come and tell our own painful stories
