The Librarian

The Librarian
Mazhar, who works in a library and is so fond of books and languages that he knows the location of all the books in the library by heart, lives alone with his parrot, but cannot be at work on time the next morning because he reads until late. Determined to read even the poet Federico Garcia Lorca in Spanish, Mazhar feels “stuck” by the arabesque culture around him and the discomford created by the Arabic signs and another lanquage that has entered his life. There is another person who will listen to the character of Mazhar, who cannot tell his troubles to anyone and is alienated, and who is shaken by the tragic news of the refugees he encounters in the media, and that is the other Mazhar who often comes across him. After losing his job, he will not only look for a new job, but will make an inner journey that he will not say ‘yes’ to the result, but that he must accept involuntarily.

(2022) (Short Film) Director Statement The starting point of the movie “The Librarian” was to build a story through one of the lonely, uncommunicative people who are influenced by social life, who have boundaries within themselves and who want to break these boundaries. The protagonist in the movie is a reader, a book lover, moreover, a person who highly values the human-society-life bonds provided by the language, and tries to 'learn a language' just for this purpose in order to read a poet he loves in his own language. The main reason for his inner conflict is the spread of another culture and language (Arabic) in his country, which opened its doors to immigrants for political reasons, and therefore the deep crisis occurred, as well as his emotional shock with the tragic news of the refugees he came across in the media and his unemployment. He is still looking for the solution of this situation he is in. For this reason, the character/personality in the story is developed by dividing the screen into two. In a way, it was aimed to make the audience understand the character's situation better with the help of this duality.
